Community Service
White Oak Golden K Kiwanis works hands on in the community as well as providing monetary donation to numerous other community service organizations. Here are just some of the things we do.
Sponsor student clubs in schools
As we begin our look at the community service projects White Oak Golden K Kiwanis members are involved in, we start with our sponsorship of student clubs in local schools. These are essentially Kiwanis clubs designed for students, including K-Kids in elementary schools, Builders Club in middle schools, and Key Club in high school. Students develop leadership skills through their involvement.
Give scholarships to deserving students in the county
We give scholarships to deserving students. One category of scholarship is limited to students who are members of their school’s Key Club, while another is open to any student. We also give scholarships for folks who want to complete their GED diploma, a high school equivalency credential.
Donate instruments to middle school band programs
Our newest community service project goes by the acronym of MUSIC, which stands for Mildly Used Student Instrument Connection. In this program, our club obtains slightly used music instruments, does minor repairs if necessary, and donates them to middle school music programs in the county to be used by students who might not be able to purchase their own instruments.
Bring in large amounts of money for the Salvation Army
Each Christmas season we work with the Salvation Army in their Christmas bell ringing fundraiser. Our members volunteer to man the red kettle at Walmart, and consistently are among the top collectors in the annual campaign.
Help keep the community clean by picking up trash on McIntosh Parkway
Our club’s members volunteer to help maintain Newnan’s beauty by regularly picking up trash on McIntosh Parkway.
Direct traffic into the fairgrounds for the community July 4 fireworks.
For the July 4 community fireworks show, our member volunteers direct traffic into fairground parking spaces.
Partner with other Kiwanis clubs in the county to sponsor Citizen of the Year
Each year White Oak Golden K partners with the other Kiwanis clubs in Coweta County to sponsor the Citizen of the Year.
Financially support numerous community service organizations
And finally under the community service umbrella, White Oak Golden K Kiwanis makes financial contributions each year to numerous community service organizations. These organizations work across the spectrum including child development, promotion of healthy living, medical assistance, provision of cultural opportunities, assistance to folks who are down on their luck or are victims of tornado damage, and many more.
